Roadside Station Aguri-no-sato Ritto
The only roadside station in Japan from which you can see the Shinkansen. You can view the 275 km/h force running at high speed adjacent to Aguri-no-Sato Ritto from the restaurant inside and the parking lot. The tracks are close enough that the sound of the train can be heard, and you won't miss it, even without a train schedule.
This roadside station is delighted to offer delicious specialties of the area. At the restaurant, you can eat special wariki sushi rolls and Maruppo Tofu, made in-house. You can also enjoy shopping for gelato, bread, mochi, and other carefully crafted food items. In autumn, you can enjoy a field of cosmos and try your hand at potato digging.
For souvenir gifts, not only do we have locally grown vegetables, but also Maruppo Tofu, made entirely of Ritto-grown soybeans, as well as the highly-recommended fig jam and fig gelato, boasting great quantities of production within the prefecture.
The restroom is large and constructed in a way that is easy to access and use for visitors with disabilities. Not only are there no steps inside the facility, but the extra-wide aisle ensures everyone can use the facilities with no worries.

Megawa gourd

Ritto City's Megawa prospered as a locale (as a rest area for travelers), positioned adjacent to the Kusatsu-juku Station of the 53 stations on the Tokaido Road. There were various stores and tea shops which sold indispensable items to those on journeys. Amongst these indispensable things, it is thought that Hyotan jugs to put tea and sake in were sold as a side-business of local farmers from the Mid-Edo Period until around the Meiji Period.
After that time and through to the present, though demand has decreased and production scale has been downsized, they continue to grow them and sell them as charms in many areas.
