QRT Guidance 1Tower of the Sun

Welcome to the Tower of the Sun.
The interior of the Tower will be introduced to everyone.
The Tower of the Sun was constructed as part of the Theme Pavilion for the World Exposition, 1970, and was designed by the famous Japanese Artist, Taro Okamoto. It was selected for permanent preservation 5 years after the World Expo, in 1975.
The interior is divided into two zones available for viewing.
First is the〈Sun of the Underworld〉Zone. This area was created as a prologue to the Tower of the Sun, to convey the world view of the Theme Exhibition of the Expo.
Next, there is the〈Tree of Life〉Zone. Please take in this original space, like no other in the world.

World Exposition, Osaka 1970 Symbol Area The Tower of the Sun was erected, piercing through the 30 meter-high〈Grand Roof〉in front of the Main Gate of the Expo.

Tower of the Sun

1970 saw the opening of the first World Exposition in Asia, in the Senri Hills of Osaka. The '70 Expo became the biggest World Exposition in history, and the biggest event in post-war Japan, with 64,210,000 people gathering to attend. The Tower of the Sun built for the '70 Expo is known by all Japanese as the symbol of the Expo.
However, the Tower of the Sun is not merely a giant sculpture. It was built as part of the Theme Pavilion to present the theme of the Expo, "Progress and Harmony for Mankind".
The avant-garde artist Taro Okamoto brought it to life. Appointed producer of the Theme Pavilion, Okamoto thought up a dynamic exhibition space to present the theme of the Expo.
After the closing of the Expo, most all of the pavilions were taken down, but the Tower of the Sun was selected for permanent preservation. That was 1975. Then, the doors to the interior were closed for nearly half a century. However, in 2018 it has been restored and reborn as a perminant exhibition.
